Healthcare regulation by the Health Care Commission (HCC)
and subsequently the Care Quality Commission (CQC)

Responsibility for the inspection and assessment of infection prevention and control in NHS bodies (including services provided by NHS trusts and PCTs) currently rests with the HCC.

The regulation of the provision of health and adult social care will become the responsibility of the CQC on 1st April 2009.

All providers of registered activities will need to register with the CQC.
